Kid Command Mission Log… Commander Fitz
Day 763 in Gorfian Year of the Split Moons Crew members: Teesha, Machui, Bella, Carlotta, Paws, and Kota As we bravely raised the Gorfian flag from the top of our craft, I heard little Bella gasp anxiously. The tension on the ship was heavy and for our little butterfly, the weight of our nerves was almost unbearable. We knew our mission would be dangerous, but one is never prepared for that icy blast of fear that feels like frozen sludge in your veins. As a commander that has lived long and seen much, I was prepared for anything…the worst.
But then we all felt it -- the strong pull of nosinu. I cannot describe nosinu in words that make sense but it is a feeling…an energy…the reason we all embarked on this journey. Those who felt it came along. According to Gorfian prophecy, there were to be seventeen chosen ones. I had six crew members aboard my ship. I was certain that whatever was on that craft was one of us. Wise Machui broke the strange silence, “Bibbs. His name is Bibbs and he too has been chosen. He is an artist, an inventor, and a creator of nothing to plenty.”
We opened our boarding hatch. A slender, scaly figure entered our ship. He stood before us quietly for a moment, but then gave a sly wink and disappeared. Seconds later he reappeared this time holding a huge plate of Bo Bo Berries as a gift for us. He flared his huge umbrella like head and laughed, “Bibbs the Bearded Dragon is my name and the art of magic is my game.”

Let’s Take the MEAN out of Clean!
Surprised by actual warnings like this one, printed on the back of a very popular household cleaner, “WARNING…toxic to small household pets and young children,” the Kid Command crew decides to make a completely non-toxic and effective multi-purpose household cleaning potion out of ingredients you probably have right in your cupboard. If you’ve never cleaned naturally, you are in for a treat! To have your house smell like the essential oils of lemons, tea tree, and lavender is so much more enjoyable than the harsh smell of chemical fumes. There’s a reason the warnings say to avoid using certain cleaners in small spaces with insufficient ventilation…because they’re bad for you…not to mention bad for our planet (and our children and our pets). complete with cleaning potion recipes and tips so that you can stock your cleaning cabinet with inexpensive and effective all-natural cleaners!

Rare Clouded Leopard Cubs Born
Two tiny exotic and endangered clouded leopard cubs were born at the National Zoo’s Conservation and Research Center in Virginia. The cubs were born from native leopards Hannibal and Jao Chu, but zookeepers must hand raise them to guarantee their safety and survival.
Clouded leopards, called the ghost cat, are native to Southeast Asia but are becoming increasingly rare because they are hunted for their beautiful fur pelts. These acrobatic climbers have black and tan reptile-like fur, huge paws, an extremely long tail, and sharp fangs like a poisonous snake. Kids of all ages will love learning about these cute baby cubs at:

Happy World Environment Day!
Popular culture and discount stores have led us to believe that special days must be commemorated with consumption. Think about it -- our Halloween decorations must now outdo our Christmas decorations…and our Christmas decorations…well let’s not even get started on the insanity of that situation. What would the world be like if our kids could see the bigger picture? What would our planet be like if we stopped going with the numb flow of our weekly advertising circulars and actively searched for ways to become aware? World Environment Day is celebrated each year on June 6th. It began in 1972 by the United Nations and its purpose is to “promote worldwide awareness of the environment and to enhance political attention and action.” While it doesn’t have nearly the bells and whistles that the rest of our holidays do, we encourage you and the children in your life to make it (and the month of June, for that matter) a special time to learn about the health of our planet!

We also love this beautiful music video about another wonderful global event, Earth Hour! If your computer has buffering issues, let this baby play once and load fully before sitting down to watch it with your kids in full screen mode. It’s an amazing look at the “power of one.”
